Is a regular college degree better then a Tech School degree?

2yr = associates degree
4yr = bachelor degree

The difference between what you could learn in a 4 year computer science program and in a 2 year tech school program is staggering. Your tech school knowledge is usually of a purely practical variety and is worthless in a few years. A real 4 year computer science education will last you your entire lifetime.
Think of the quote:

4 year degree - Teaching a man to fish
2 year degrees typically churn you out with working knowledge of current systems and focuses little on theory
4 year degrees typically focus on Theory and little on practical knowledge.
This is not the rule though, it varies from school to school. I went to Devry which is kind of like middle of the road between Tech Schools and Universities, it focused a lot on both Theory and Practical knowledge as well a lot of "soft skills" in a business environment so not only do you get a BSc. Comp Sci you get a lot of Business education.
I value the business education portion so much, it helped me jump straight to a mid-level position. The school taught me how to do everything from Public Speaking, how to write proper resumes to writing memos and business plans. Potential Employers love it when their technical staff are able to speak to them in terms they understand but also know their stuff.

I went to one of the "Technology Centers" that are supposed to teach your computer science in a year or something like that, and it was the dumbest thing I've ever been apart of. I stayed there for a month, then got out of there as quick as possible. So now I am at a community college, which is not that bad. I am transferring to a 4 year school in January, due to my high school gpa being a 1.6 and they said i had to have a few more hours at a community college before i could enroll. But, go with the 4 year school. The average income for a 2 year computer degree is 25k-30k, while the average for the 4 year degree is 50k-60k.
