Any ideas on how to get started on an @ home based pc tech repair business, what tools do you need including hardware and software? What marketing strategies? How much money you think is required? What kind of service will be offered? What kind of garauntees can be offered? What laws do we abide by? And who do we target? Also are certifications required? Any insight on this subject matter will be most useful to all who apply!!!!

have you ever worked as a pc tech, doing repairs upgrades, networking....look at the catagories above like OS and hardware, and wireless net...can you answer 90% or better of the questions ? if not you probably would want to get a job as a technician first and build up your skills. You probably should start reading a lot , google any questions you have. Actually that does not stop a few organizations around where I live they go in have little idea what is going on, make the customer think they are dump, through around a lot of big words, do not fix the pc and collect $$$$. That is another skill, people skills. Sometime it is the customer that needs to be fixed. Do you want to do this because you like PCs or because you want to make money ? basically if you have to ask what will i need , if you do not know, it is best to start under someone elses wing.

If you are going to start a Legit pc repair business, you will need a business licence for city/county. The problem is that b/c you will most likely be traveling you will need more licences than normal.

You will need boot disks for all Windows systems.
You don't really need the linux disks b/c people that use that OS usually know what the hell they are doing.

Get anti magnet tools. screw driver is the most important.
Also, get an External HDD so you can easily move files/folders to save.

Know your stuff, b/c people LOVE to ask questions.
They might not know the answer to these questions, but they WILL see how you answer it.

If you can... Get them to give up the machine for the night. Fixing a machine is 2938429487 Times easier to do without a nosey person looking over your shoulder asking you questions about everything that you do on that machine.

When you are first starting out, you need to keep your prices very low b/c you need the referalls from that customer.
Go to your local Best buy or random computer "Fix-it" store and check out their prices. Make your prices around the same as theirs.

Pretend to give "Hook-ups" to nice people. If they think that you hooked them up, they will want to do business with you again.
This doesn't mean you have to give actual disscounts, it just means you need to say you did.

LOL oh yeah !

GET BUSINESS CARDS !
They are your BEST friend.
Everytime you see a bulletin board where people put up their business cards, you put yours up too.
You won't really be able to afford marketing right now, so you should keep it really simple. Referalls are your best bet when getting new business.

If you need more information just PM me...
