A+, MCSE, NET+, MCP - what are these?

I was just curious what all these letters mean?
Are these degrees or certification?
Do they have meaning... like MBA or BBA?

Maybe they are like doctor as in Dr.
I have no clue (guess I could look them up)... but I thought I would get a better answer here.

A+ is a certification by CompTIA. Focuses on Computer Software and Hardware.

MCSE stands for Microsoft Certified Systems Enginer. Easy definition is "everything Microsoft".

Net+ is another certification by CompTIA. Focuses on Network components and types.

MCP stands for Microsoft Certified Professional, one Microsoft test required to gain this title.

A+ All-In-One Certification 3rd Edition by Mike Meyers
approx. $60.00 US (you can find cheaper) ISBN 0-07-212679-5

Network+ All-In-One Certification 2nd Edition by Mike Meyers
approx. $60.00 US (you can find cheaper) ISBN 0-07-213164-0

MCSE is tougher, there are a bunch of tests involved to obtain this. I would start with the first tests you should take: 72-210 and 72-215 (Windows 2000 Pro and Server). I know some of you are saying, "that's not right, the tests are 70-210 and 70-215". They have been updated, the new version is 72-2**.

i learn best by hands-on stuff, i wish they had separate schools for people like me, i cant stand sitting in class all day learning about the theories of networking or the theories of hardware, it drives me bonkers, id rather learn about how to set up a FDDI network or how to build a cheap, busniess computer, u know stuff like that that ill actually use

Network security is the hottest presently, especially firewall and checkpoint.... i took my course at Epsolon Networks Inc in Houston, they have the best instructor and one of the best Lab.

I met a CCIE the other day at work, he said that the CCNA was overated unless you were going to go all the way with CISCO.

He said that I was making a "smart move" with going for my MCSA/E first.

most places dont really care about the mcse, BECAUSE you can go to a 5-day "boot camp" where you learn everything you need to know to pass the test, so it isnt really like getting an education, its more learning how to pass the test and get certified, the CCNA is a good start, but if youre doing anything network-intensive i would go with the CCNP, which is only another 4 classes (2 semesters) but its also 7 tests
