I'm excited!

However, I'd like to know what do you guys think will be on the test?
Job description:
1. Troubleshooting network problems involving routing, communications, network operating systems, printing and applications
2. Provide technical services and training blah blah I know this one
etc, etc, etc

The first one is what I'm worried about. The district currently uses Microsoft Active Directory.

What should I read up on to be more prepared? I've only taken one class in college on networking

EDIT: I'm excited because it's a full time position and I"ll be making 2.5 times as much as I do now -- and it's in the direction I want to go career-wise.

Tough to say - pretty broad terms. I would think ensuring PC's and network devices have connectivity and if they don't troubleshooting (IE ipconfig /release & renew, dns flush, troubleshooting routers and switches, ect).

As for AD, you could read a crash course book in AD. The general idea of AD is you have a domain GPO, that GPO contains rules and settings for the people that fall under that GPO. GPO's can overlap as you'll have IT and Marketing as part of your standard user policy but IT get local admin rights as well.

Good luck!

Ahh that's a good idea.. I'll find some materials to read this weekend. Thanks

Your prospective employer presumably doesn't want to waste their time or your time so wouldn't have called you in if they thought there was something big missing from your resume.
If I were you I would make sure I knew the material on my resume, maybe take a high-level look at some of the technologies they are using and the terminology they are likely to use. That way even if you don't know the answers, you can at least talk reasonably intelligently about them.

Good luck.

For the most part I'm pretty confident I will do well. Terminology, however, I will have trouble with. And I'm no expert in Windows command line... I'm hoping there will be more Linux / UNIX scripting and whatnot. I'm much better at that.

I don't think the job itself will be too technical. It doesn't require a degree, only "completion of the 12th grade"

however.. I do think there will be people with degrees applying... The pay isn't all that bad. 40k a year and benefits.

I'm definitely going to go over AD and group policies, seeing as how those two are what the system runs on now (switched over from Novell e-Directory over the summer.. boy that was fun)

Hay. I work for my school district. I'll give a breakdown of what I needed to know. You will need to know how a network works. Do you know dynamic and static, dhcp, dns? There isn't much if any dos command line. The only thing i use it for is ping, ipconfig, and netstat. learn those commands. You will need to know how to repair computers on the hardware and software side. Have you ever opened one up? changed harddrives? Installed a program? removed a virus. Then there is the general getting parts that the teachers missplaced. You will want to have a grounding in customer service. Show your self a pro.
