help becoming a software enginer

ok im going to be a jr in high school next year and im hoping to become a computer software enginer but idk where to start, im taking some computer classes (computer enginering technologies, and computer networking) but thats about it, what degree should i be going for?, i live in western north carolina if it helps any.

Typically, you would pursue a bachelors degree in computer science, computer engineering, or software engineering, with the most common being computer science. Also, search this forum. This topic has been discussed quite a bit.
