Best Route to be a pen tester?

Hey Guys,

Long term goal is to be a penetration tester. Right now I have an A+ Cert and a few years in help desk/ desktop support. Well I got laid off in December from my current job so Im going to get some certifications in the mean time. What certs should I be getting? and what roles or positions should I move to? Sys Admin? Any help or advice is appreciated.

Security role, so you'd want to do all things security. Sec+ and CCNA would be good ones.

Hope you like networking, because in order to really understand a system vulnerabilities you have to really understand the technology. To make it in this field you HAVE to understand networking, the backbone of how systems connect as that is what 99.9% of security people focus on. There is a small portion of that which relies on physical security, but most is network related.

Sec+, Net+, CCNA are all great things to get you to that position you want. CCNP would be the next step up from the CCNA with security.
