I've never been on any tech forum and am pretty new to computers. I'm still trying to teach myself the basics, but I've run into a problem and I'm hoping someone here can help.

Ive blown the power on my Seagate 1 TB external hardrive by plugging in my laptop cable by mistake. I bought a new Seagate 1 TB in the hope of switching over the power unit. It hasnt worked. I notice though that the old unit spec says:

+5V 0.72A
+2V 0.2A

The new one says: +5V 0.83A
+12v 0.31A

I really dont know what Im doing, but think these specs mean the new power unit isnt powerfull enough to boot up the old drive.

I was also hoping to fit one of the drives into my desktop as an additional permanent memory.

I really would appriceate any help/advice on this as theres a lot of data on the old one I need to access. Thanks
