I'm thinking of a career in IT, though I have an interest across the spectrum, I've learned the difference between computer science, and computer engineering and decided information technology is more up my alley.
I have the options of an associates in IT specialist. Minor in IT or major in IT.
I intend on collecting the full spectrum of certs such as CCNA.
A little about me, I'm a displaced fire fighter-medic looking for a set of skills that can get me a job outside the fire service.
I am 30, and want a re-established career by the time I'm 32. If not in fire, then something with computers whether an IT department, a data science (I'm intrigued reading about data mining) but not sure about how high up programming I'd want to do or hardware. IT appeals to me because it seems more broad and I like to be a jack of all trades.
I already have a bachelor so getting another major won't take a full 4 years but may take longer than the 2 year time table I want to push.
I have heard with IT certs and education are either or and the more the better, so I don't think I need a major right yet, but if that is what it takes to get a job I need to know.
With this information I am accepting all advice and accepting any answers to questions I may not have thought of.
My basic question is what education path should I take to get to a job that pays at least $30-40k, realized not theoretical earnings.
And I am always willing to continue school and learn more. ...I just can't decide against a major until I know it is not necessary to get a job above...$20k a year.
