Windows XP VPN setup.

Open the Control Panel and Network Connections.

Click on “Create a new network connection” and click next on the first screen.

Check the “Connect to the network at my workplace” radio button and click next.

Select the “Virtual Private Networking connection” radio button and click next.

Enter the name you would like to call this connection. “Office VPN” is a good example. Click next.

If you have an internet connection that is always on select “Do not dial the initial connection”. You can use this option if you establish your network connection before using the VPN. You must have an internet connection before you can make a VPN connection.

This is where you will enter the internet address for the VPN server you are connecting to. If we are hosting your website we will have created an address in the form of vpn.domainname. An example would be vpn.appworkz.com. If we donÂ’t have control of your domain you will enter the ip address that we provided you. If you need this information send a message to support@appworkz.com and we will provide the information to you.

You can add a shortcut to your desktop or just access the connection through Start >> Connect to. Click finish.

Enter your username and password. You may want to check the box to save your password.

After you click connect you will see this once it has started the connection.

The first time you create a VPN connection and successfully connect a box may open that you will need to close. After that once it connects the box will go down to your system tray near your clock. You can click on it there to see the status.

To speed up your internet connection you can also perform this advanced option to allow regular internet traffic to through your existing internet connection rather than the VPN.

Open the Control Panel and Network Connections.

Right click on your new VPN connection and select properties.

Select the “Networking” tab and highlight the internet protocol and click properties.

Click on the Advanced button and uncheck the “Use default gateway on remote network” check box. Click OK on the next three windows. If after making theses changes you can’t access your internal network you will need to reset the check box.
