Thunderplunger is an add-on for the email client Thunderbird that adds a few semi-automatic functions that aid the user to keep Thunderbird clean and tidy. The six functions that are added can be divided into three areas: News and RSS, Accounts and Email Addresses. The News and RSS group contains functions to mark news and rss servers read, to remove phantom messages in newsgroups and to remove orphaned news files.
While Thunderbird provides access to a function that can mark each individual folder as read there is no function to do the same for a news or rss server which would mark all of the folders as read in one go. Removing phantom messages clears the phenomenon that Thunderbird sometimes reports new messages when there are none.
Removing orphaned files is a very useful feature. It removes information about newsgroups that the user unsubscribed from. Thunderbird will keep those messages on the system even though the newsgroup has been removed from Thunderbird, much like it is done for deleted email messages.
Clean Accounts is the function provided in the accounts group of functions. It scans the Thunderbird folders for traces of accounts that cannot be linked to any existing Thunderbird account and removes those from the system.

By default the user has to copy and find the address in an address book and delete it from there. This is very handy for bounced emails.
