How to Enable AHCI in Windows 7

What is AHCI?
For those unfamiliar with the term AHCI, it stands for:

The few times I have come across this it always causes issues. Blue screens while booting and even blue screens on installs. What is the benefit?
 
What is the benefit of AHCI? I'd say the top two are extra speed, and the ability to eject any SATA drive you want.

Works a ton better than IDE mode, never tried enabling it the way this tut says tho
 
I just had to put a server into ata mode because I could not get the operating system installed. I figured the HD's were on the Perc anyway, the only thing on the mobo was DVD rom. I believe u need server 2003 sp2 r2 or better to install on AHCI. I'm not sure what mode my 7 box is in, i've never looked.
