By default, Windows 2000 / 2003 logs all print-related events. Whilst this can be useful for auditing purposes, it can also be detrimental to performance as well as clogging up the event log with lots of unnecessary information. If you have configured your machine to shut down if the System event log fills up, it could also result in unplanned outages.

To disable logging of print events:

Use a registry editing tool to navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers

Insert or change a value with the following details:
Data Type:DWORD
Value Name:Eventlog
Value:0
Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
