Allowing the use of removable drives in the Recovery Console
The Recovery Console is a a command-line interface similar to Windows cmd.exe accessible through the Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 CD boot sequence that allows you access to the system in case of major operating system failure. From the Recovery Console, you can disable services and drivers and copy files - usually do enough to get your machine booting again.
However, the Recovery Console by default doies not allow access to removable (i.e. floppy) drives or locations outside of the root of Windows directories. This tweak enables that funcationality.

To allow the use of removable drives in Recovery Console:

Use a registry editing tool to navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Setup\RecoveryConsole

Insert a value with the following details:
Data Type: DWORD
Value Name: SetCommandl
Value: 1

As entry into the Recovery Console requires a reboot, a reboot at this stage is not required.
