MP4 Compression/Conversion

I'm trying to convert some of my avi movie files into mp4 in order to play on my PSP.

What program would work for that, which would compress it enough to get it from a 700 MB file to a 200-400 MB file?

I really need it, because I only have a 1GB memory card, and I need to make the best of it.

Nero would do it. Super would also convert to mp4. http://www.erightsoft.org/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.exe
But I don't think you can get form 700MB to 400MB without sacrificing quality.

PSP video converter, and so does the PSP software that sony sells for it.

With this you just transcode the video then with PSP Video 9 you can copy and transfer it onto your PSP
