if you are looking to store games on the hdd you will need a offical sony hd , however it will not work with a mod installed . you can get the dms3 chip and it will allow you to save emulators and roms on a standard hd in your ps2 ..

i was modding mine too but so far i have found that a fliptop is better!

I can burn in dvd-r. So can I just burn a rented game and play it on ps2, or is there more to it then that? I like that fliptop but where is the mod chip in it?

if you get a flip top you will also have to get swap discs and put 1 or 2 discs in the ps2 before the backup , or you could get a no swap chip installed and backups will play like origonals ..
