Thumbs down 60GB PS3 has overheated, firmware update 2.00 the cause

thx to firmware update 2.00, our 60GB PS3 has now overheated to the point where we cannot turn it on anymore.....n it has COD4 rental from Blockbuster stuck inside it!

the 60GB PS3 has hit it hard for the worst guys, and everyone else throw out the US has had the same problem. If u havent noticed, then research this on google.

our PS3 has ran slower when hooking up to the PS store n scrolling through the menu then usual ever since we downloaded the latest firmware update. The PS3 has froze on us once using COD4 n now TWICE without warning!

idk what do to, my older bro tried n tried to turn it on but no dice. Looks like we have to call Blockbuster n Sony what happened. I'm afraid we have to pay fines for Blockbuster n have to send in the PS3 to Sony. Idk what Sony is gonna do, since they dont make the 60GB PS3 model anymore. They might reject it or replace it with the 80GB PS3 parts, which will SUCK ***!

also, Assassin's Creed, which my older bro just bought, gave funky tilt controls; same with COD4.

anyone have a similar experience?

EDIT:

i believe i have lost total interest in PS3 from now on! Thx a lot Sony! Our PS3's vent wasnt even blocked n was getting good air flow too! I'm not getting any PS3 game, just Wii.

call sony they will send you a replacement or will tell you to get a replacement from a store my friend bought his at toys r us and he just returned it to them and he didnt buy the warranty. Also i havent noticed any slwdown on my PS3 since firmware 2.0. Call Sony there isnt a number to call like XboX cuz these things arent failing,RRoD'ng,Scratching disks,Broken Disk Trays, and mobos arent coming off the stands like crazy. of course you have the 60GB model so you may not get a replacement 60GB but many places still have thee. Why lose interest in the PS3? most people are on their 10th 360,but that may just be fanboism and failing to realize the 360 is a POS, hope this doesnt take u away from the ps3, or your going to miss al the action with the games coming up like Haze,LBP,MGS4,FFXIII,La Noire,Rain,GT5 etc...

i called Sony customer service n told what happened, n they said i will get a replacement of a NEW 60GB PS3, not an 80GB or 40GB, a NEW 60GB PS3 that is under the 1-year warranty. We need to send a copy credit card reciept proving purchase of the system to Sony. I gave them my email address so they can send me info about them sending a package for me to put my PS3 in, my order number to send it in, all that good stuff. Unfortunatly, we will lose the data in our HDD in our PS3 because it was not backed up (dang it!).

however, i have found a possible way to back up the data from the HDD:

i could take it out, place it in a computer, hopefully detect the HDD knowing that it supports SATA, which i have a cable for, erase the unfinished install data of Windows XP on my 80GB HDD in my computer, transfer the data off the 60GB HDD onto my 80GB HDD. I then place back the 60GB HDD in the PS3 n ship it with all the info i need require for shipping like credit card reciept copy n stuff.

2 customer representatives ive talked to say that it wont work, but it is worth a try. It's like any other HDD, so y not?

ill let u ppl know if it works or not, or if u guys have any advice to save the data, feel free to respond.

aw man, that sucks, the fact that the PS3 was mechanically more stable than the 360 was one of its stronger points. I hope for Sony that it hasn't spread as much as the 360's RRoD

alternatively take ou the HDD and take it to a friends house that has a ps3 and take a flash drive and get your game saves off like that, no need to worry about your psn downloads you can redownload those for free

the thing is, i was told not by one but now 3 customer representatives said that the PS3 will format the HDD right away when place into another system.

i have pretty good news though, we will get COD4 shipped back to use before or after we send the 60GB PS3 to be replaced. They said they cannot fix it because it is against their policy.........WTF!!

other good news is my dad has this "sheild" thing that goes over a notebook HDD n can be powered n used like an external HDD i think. I dont fully understand it either, but it is SATA, like the HDD. If it can be powered n connected to the computer or another PS3, then we can get the data off the HDD.
