Nintendo "Revolution"

I kind of like the new design... + it is supposedly going to be backward compatible with all previous console games from Nintendo and rumor has it that Nintendo is going to let people download all older games for free...

and I saw something funny earlier... the word "Nintendo" is in the Msword spell check

I've also read that it will be backward compatible with other systems and it should be able to play GCN discs as well as the newer and hopefully 'Normal' CDs... These small ones were cool for a while... but I'd love to play CDs and DVDs through this new system. I've also read something about Nintendo wanting to put more into online gaming as well (With WiFi I think...?). Also, I believe I read that Nintendo hopes to be more comitted to good gaming, not graphics, so its graphics once again can't be compared to PS3 and XBox 360 when they are out.

Downloading older games won't be free... at least most of them won't. However, the revolution will also be compatible with not only games, but all of the controllers. Anyways, I'll shut my mouth now and just post the IGN article sites that I've read all this junk so you can see for yourself what else may be going on. (Things in Parenthesis are just what the article talks about)

There are a few other articles scattered around the site. Just copy and paste these addresses (but not the words in parenthesis) if you can't click them and they should take you right to the site. Go to http://cube.ign.com to look around and scour about for any more articles you can find on revolution.

^ Thanks for those articles, going to check them out now. I don't think I will be purchasing this console, if I even get one of the three next generation systems .. definitely won't be until the prices drop

From what I understand, Sony plans on keeping 1 steady price on the PS3 after it's release... They won't do any specials like for instance, when Gamecube came out, its prices were slashed from around $300 to $150 after a few weeks and then went back up; It now pretty much sits at $150. Sony however, seems to just want to name a price and keep it there permanently. Unless it isn't costly when it comes out, you may only be looking towards Nintendo 'Revolution' and X Box 360, assuming they don't also make a 'set' price.

I trust nintendo to design and make a brilliant, fun and understated system.

when people say that they hope nintendo have HDD, broadband, CD/DVD player i have to wonder at their sanity. including these things will drive up the cost greatly especialy CD any console with CD has to pay a licensing fee. pretty stupid since most people will have a DVD player separate anyway.

the worst of all though is high definition support which is stupidly expensive and even in the US where it is most popular the % of HD TVs is less than 10%.

backwards compatibility is what many have been crying out for a long time...this will be very good for those who have not played many of the classics (including myself)

in conclusion, consoles are supposed to be cheap and accessible gaming solutions and i hope that nintendo remembers this. i still think that the new generation are coming too soon and there is plenty of life left in this gen.
