My DS Lite has Top Screen Problems, broken hinge, unusual colors?

My Ds Lite has an broken hinge. It's crack and does not allow my ds to be in place. However I have a larger problem, my ds lite's top screen has some unusual colors which started appearing a week ago. Whenever I play a game it has an unusual shade of red only on the top screen. Which well kinda irritates me. So I've been wondering how much is the price of an repair and why does my top screen have the unusual shade. Also, how complecated is it to fix the top screen on a scale of 1-10. Thank you very much.

Well, I thought it was because of the hinge, that maybe that affected one of the wires places near the top screen. Not sure though.

For Nintendo's Ds Lite warranty would i be able to get a new one even though I didn't buy the ds from a store, but from a friend?
