Xbox 360 and region 1 DVDs?

Hey guys, so i live in England which means the DVDs are region 2.

I;ve been told that UK DVD players generally can't play region 1(USA) DVDs? Is this because of a different format?

Anyway can my xbox 360 play region 1 DVDs? My tv is a 26" HD LCD Hitachi if Tvs have something to do with it.

It not the format, but he region lock that is imposed. I suppose that if you have a UK dvd drive, it'd be region 2. So it can not read region 1 discs.
