From today budding developers can finally create their own Xbox 360 and PC games, thanks to the official release of XNA Game Studio Express and the XNA Creators Club on Xbox Live Marketplace.
XNA Game Studio Express is up now as a free download for PC users (sorry, no Macs), and gives students and hobbyists (with a little technical know-how) the ability to create their own freeware PC and Xbox 360 games.
Signing up for the XNA Creators Club via a £30 4-month or £65 annual Xbox Live Marketplace subscription, wannabe Miyamotos can then gain access to "thousands of game assets from Microsoft and key supporters such as Turbo Squid Inc," as well as "white papers, specialised starter kits, samples and technical product". A lot of kit then.
To help kick things off, Microsoft will launch the "Dream-Build-Play" competition in January, which gives creators the chance to have their masterpiece published on Xbox Live Arcade. For more info on that, check out the competition website.
