Even if you could hack into the crackers server, you would still need to know which key they used because each pc they encrypt (that could be a lot world wide) has it's own separate key

Just had this happen, actually the first time I saw this; squashed the process and anything else that looked linked, everything worked fine, had no Idea that this could be such an issue, now I know.

There is a free utility from Fooli**** LLC called Crypto Prevent to will block your files from being encrypted, there is of course a manual method using the group policy.

This link is from Bleeping Computer and explains the CryptoLocker Ransomware in more detail. It also states that if you wait till the clock counts down, the price for the recovery key goes up to 10 bitcoins

Ransomeware/scareware can even modify the master boot record and/or partition table (which prevents the operating system from booting at all until it is repaired)

That's not what Cryptolocker does, though. Cryptolocker just encrypts your files.

From what I've seen, it's not too difficult to remove. The real problem is that it *actually* encrypts your data, which no anti-virus can undo.

So both Malwarebytes or Yet Another Cleaner or any known anti-virus can not completely fix it?

Nothing will fix it without paying the ransom, or by getting VERY lucky and praying that it hasn't yet deleted shadow copies. The only real fix is to make sure you have detached offline backups of your data.
