Anthem Insurance Data Breach

Yeah. I might want to contact my insurance company and ask them what they're doing to prevent this from happening to them.

I expect these guys to get hit hard because of HIPPA...

Really bad practice to not store data encrypted...

According to what I read, this would fall under a Tier 4 HIPAA violation, according to this source, costing
Code:
$50,000 or more for each violation, up to a maximum of $1.5 million for identical provisions during a calendar year

I can just imagine the conversation at Anthem HQ:

CEO: "What do we do, Collin? We've got one-and-a-half million dollars in fines to pay..."
CFO: "Well, we could always raise everyone's premiums..."

This is a mega corp. 1.5M is probably less then what they will spend to upgrade their security in the first place.

That won't prevent them from raising premiums over this.. Can't eat into the Executives' paychecks, now can we?
