in few words what you think about anonymity in today's world and why.
just curious what you all think personally

you can use scale 1-10 or memes or whatever way you can best describe your idea.

but please include a short description why you think that way otherwise this thread is useless.

my personal view is right now we have anonymity in numbers. plain and simple to much data like a needle in a haystack. but if someone wants to find that needle they can surely point a magnet to the right direction and find it in no time.
but my level of knowledge about security is pretty weak lol

Of course it is real. You are an idiot if you think otherwise. We arent in the information age anymore, we are in the answer age. People want answers, and quick. And people know that they dont have to be known to disagree and bash like we used to in this forum :)

Noone is anonymous if you have data/ information on the internet... If someone wants to find details on you they can.

Local data on a LAN, then you are somewhat anonymous until someone wants to gain access to your LAN, and if its connected to the WAN then it can be accessed remotely (if hacked of course)... otherwise you need physical access.

I somewhat agree with mike, but people still want to gather information! an employer will check the net for you, a BF. GF, wife, husband will look for details on you... a person may hate someone, etc the list can go on...

People have allowed (because their not bothered or educated to the possibilities) the world to not be anonymous anymore...

It's not a bad thing.. Just means people that need information can find it or gather it easy!

I think anonymity is different from one person to another on two sides: 1) what that person think anonymity actually is and 2) how much they realize that online presence and security isn't the only thing that plays a role in anonymity.

Yes, you can keep yourself off of Facebook, you can choose not to shop online, you can stay out of the photos that your friends take when you go out. When you go into a Target, or into a Home Depot, you're still at risk of fraud and identity theft. For those who don't stay off of social media, many folks don't know how to properly control their privacy settings on those platforms. Anybody and everybody can look them up and see that bikini shot from last week or that bar dance you did three years ago. Then there is also advertising. Sites, browsers, and other technology tracks what you do to target ads specific to what they think you want (ever look up information on a car and then get hit with a ton of ads on Facebook or Google about buying used cars?).

Anonymity is what you make of it and how well you realize that most of these companies provide you the tools to control it to some extent. You also have to realize, however, that anything can be hacked and your data is always at risk. Personal data, to me, is what anonymity is all about. That includes my likes, dislikes, searches (since those are my likes and potentially my medical conditions, vehicles I drive, doctors I see, restaurants I visit, school my kid goes to, etc), and pretty much anything you can do online. I expect reasonable privacy and hold companies responsible to maintain the highest possible security and keep my data out of the wrong hands, but I'm not foolish enough to believe that it can't be stolen, either. I take that risk everyday when I get online, use a cell phone, go into any public venue where a photo could be taken, etc.

No, true anonymity only exists in the wilderness, third world countries, and fairy tales. I just think we've become jaded by the thought of being anonymous.

Very well put, I agree with that.

Anonymity in the sense that you want to go online and not having anything be traced back to you is possible. I think it's probably too much trouble to be worth it unless you know that someone is actively looking for you or you want to do something really bad without getting caught. You see news stories of people getting arrested for child porn, and then it turns out that they had unsecure wifi or it was poorly secured and someone cracked it.

Anonymity in the sense of not having your personal info out there is impossible for most of us; even if you have never used the internet, you probably still have government records and the such sitting in a database, somewhere. In that case, your biggest defense is not having anyone looking for you or interested in finding you.

For the most part, I think that most of us are okay as long as we're smart about things, like self-censoring what we put on Facebook, not giving away our email addresses to every random popup that we get, not committing cybercrimes, stuff like that.

Being anonymous on the WWW. Being anonymous in the real world. If your online presence is rather large or even a significant amount of DATA its not hard to trace someone back to the real world.

I don't need to be online ever, but yet hear in the UK people can find me with out so much as knowing how to turn a Computer on let alone use and upload Information to Facebook. How. Birth, Marriage and Death Registrar. Put it this way. Completely out of total curiosity I found my old Doctor threw local online City Council Records as in being registered to Vote.

TOR has been cracked and TOR is a second generation anonymity project setup by the US Navy.

Britain is a crazy place as we in Britain live in a Big Brother Society and have for example more cameras per person than any other country in the EU for security for example.

With GCHQ, the things they are in to is deep. The Snowden Revelations were the tip of the Ice Berg.

Their is no privacy in this world let alone anonymity. The only privacy people have is whats in their own heads. Is this true what I'm saying. Yes. Why. Because if you have for example a Chopper flying outside your house at 3AM they know if you are in bed with heat seeking technology. They know if you have heating on and what rooms. People get raided on a daily basis by the Police for having a Stupid amount of heat coming from their lofts with no viable explanation while the rest of the house is Freezing cold. You get the point I'm making.

Going back a Point. Alan Turing invented the electronic brain. He was British I do believe. Their for Britain might be a hospitable country, all singing and generous and very well in trim with our human rites but we don't compromise on security and being anonymous.

Take this for example.

The British Government has accepted 20.000 Immigrants from Syria while Germany has opened the doors at an unprecedented rate and now is struggling. Are you honestly going to tell me they don't have background information on thees people they will be housing until the 2020 elections threw intelligence agency like GCHQ. Who are these people, were are they from, how do we know they are not terrorist sleepers among them for example.

Their is no anonymous or privacy left in the world IMHO if you need to know something look it up on FB for example.

The Syrians could be traced, the problem with this is they have no ID (or fake ID) on them and give false names and I'm sure not all of them will even have a passport... So its hard to find out who they are. I'm sure they have fb and an online presences but you need to know something legit about them to start finding the information.

Off-topic but I think everyone needs to see how pathetic the UK is now: £50k luxury stretch Hummer used to ferry asylum seekers from London to Manchester | Daily Mail Online
