It will work just fine with that setup with everything maxxed. It's a Source based game, and they are very well optimised. Plus, Source is multi-core enabled (don't know whether the option is already available in L4D, I'm waiting for a price drop to buy it, but TF2 has it and it is very noticeable).

I didn't even know they had those. I thought it just went p4>pD>c2duo>c2quad>i7. Oh well, I didn't pay attention to stuff back then. I got a computer with a pentium D, and then I was kind of out of it for awhile.

Theres also pentium m after p4, which is what the entire core line is based off of.

When you change your display settings/resolution the max resolution that the slider can go too is well...your max resolution. You should aim to play any games at that resolution, it is native to your monitor and your games will look crisp and at there best. I have 19" but its native resolution is 1440 x 900.

With that rig you should be set for the next year or so without sacrificing much on the graphical side. I can max L4D on my rig, yours shouldnt be troubled at all.

Not entirely true as you can easily edit the display manager to go to higher then native resolutions for your monitor ;). Also your monitor is just widescreen and incidentally has less pixels then a standard monitor

1280x1024 = 1 310 720
1440x900 = 1 296 000

A high res for a 19" is 1680x1050 in the normal retail market, in the specialist professional market there are a few companies which go to higher resolutions and cost 3 arms and 5 legs with a flambed nose.
