Widescreen HDTV for gaming

Hi I just joined the forums today and I was wondering if it was an ok idea to switch my 19 in monitor and replace it with a 27in widescreen HDTV. People tell me that I will have some problems with this setup but is there any solutions? Im doing this mainly for gaming purposes and I cant afford a plasma tv.

Please tell me your thoughts and solutions.

Most likely if it is a television monitor and not a computer monitor, the image quality would be very low, althoguh that is a pretty cool concept.
