Main reason I haven't switched to an LCD for gaming yet...1024x768 is fine by me and I don't want to have to deal with native resolution and anything else looking like crap...I have a 17" LCD just sitting around right now because my CRT is simply better for gaming

Indeed, when most people look into LCDs they are worried about ghosting problems. However, I think the 1024x768 issue in 19" LCDs and some 17" ones is a much bigger problem than ghosting.

Typically 1280x1024, however I try maxing things out the best I can when I first get the game.

Like MMORPG, I try to get 1600x1200 as I normally need my real estate on my monitor for those games.

Is yours a 17"? I see that 17" LCDs look a lot better at 1024x768 than 19" ones do.

With my 7800GT though, I have no reason at all to play games on only 1024x768.

It's a 19", but to be honest it looks fine really, in fact I'd say it was better than my old CRT. I'm not too picky about things like that unless it's really bad.

1024x768.

Age of Empires III is the first game that I've noticed a difference between 1024x768 and 1280x1024....at 1280x1024 the land and walls of buildings look crisper, however I can't play it smoothly with high AA which is what I use at 1024x768....all other games 1024x768 looks fine.

1280x1024

That's the native resolution for my monitor (LCD) and I put it at that on all of my other monitors.

You are the only person who I've ever heard say 1024x768 looks better on an LCD than the native resolution. Most people say the quality is acceptable on 1024x768, but really looks much better at the native resolution. Your LCD must be super good at pixel stretching, or you just don't have good eyes to tell the difference.

*EDIT* I find that 1280x1024 2x AA looks better on my LCD than 1024x768 4x AA did on my CRT. 2x AA is all thats needed, epecially on high resolutions.
