vertex shader 3.0??

hey this might be in the wrong section...sorry if it is
but i just bought moderen warfare2 and i have a ATI Radeon 9600xt which is above the minimum requirements but when i start up the game it says that my graphic card doesn't support "shader 3.0". i have updated my directx but it's not working.....so can anyone please help me? thanks

9600 XT does NOT meet the minimum requirements.

if you are just looking at the numbers (9600>1600)
you are dead wrong.
1600 XT is more than twice as fast as the 9600 XT you have.

9600 XT - release date 2003-09-30
1600 XT - release date 2005-10-05

awesome thanks for your help guys ^_^ , i'm getting a whole new computer and i have a 8800gt sitting right next to me but sadly it doesn't fit in my current comp
