i'm trying to update the RETAIL version of this , but every patch I get says it can't find Return to Castle Wolfenstein, it says its not installed.

does the patch need to be in the folder?

Yes, I believe it does. I had a similar problem when I tried to update it for playing online. The guys that made that game are geniuses, funny how they failed to incorporate a simple update utility into the game...lol. You will find the same issue with Call of Duty, which just so happens to be made from the same technology. Good luck.

I think you need to point it to the directory. Plus i think there may be some stuff about having to apply many patches before the final one (ie do 1.40 then 1.41 then 1.42).
