Red Alert 2: Network Problem

This has happened to me a number of times already and I manage to eventually fix it, but this time I've got no luck.

I cant get Red Alert 2 networked. Everything is compatable, I've installed them on each PC, IPX/SPX drivers are installed etc. But, on the network page I cant see the other computer and the other cant see my computer.

Anyone know why this happens?

Try creating the server on a different computer. that works sometimes for some reason.

is the windows firewall running? That will do it every time.

I've checked the firewalls, none. I've checked all the ipx/spx settings... changed the options and the network card used in the game... nothing seems to work while the computers can still ping each other. ahhhh.... this is so irritating. Hopefully I'll work it out but if anyone has any tips... PLEASE POST!
