Recording and Uploading Video

Hey guys! So I'm sort of in a rush for work, thus this post should be brief. I downloaded OBS the other day and have been recording gameplay with it ever since. I have a little tweaking to do between the software and Twitch, so streaming is just kind of out of the question until I get a day off to really sit down and synchronize the two.

However, that said, I'm having issues and I can't figure it out. I'm recording at 1280x720p. I'm editing at 16:9. So the video I'm uploading to Youtube should be formatted for 16:9 720p videos, right? The first video I uploaded got pillarboxed. I used the tag editing feature, which didn't reformat the size of the video. It only gave the option to watch the video in 720p rather than the 360p option. So I was like, no big deal, it's my first video. The colors are good, sound is good, I don't mind pillarboxing. I can live with that.

I upload video number two with the same aspect ratios, thinking I'd found the problem: bitrate. I recorded at a max bit rate of 1000 on the previous video. In accordance with Youtube's setting suggestions, I up'd my bit rate to 5000 for 720p. When I uploaded the video, the screen was so stretched, it's almost ludicrous. I know my aspect ratios are right. So my question is, should I just keep messing with the bit rate until I find the perfect screen fit for Youtube or am I missing a step somewhere in the upload process?
