PC freezes and reboots during Half Life 2!

I have been having trouble playing half life 2 after I just got it working. I only get like 45fps and below when I have all video settings set to low, even 640 x 480 resolution! Sometimes the play gets choppy even then and the game freezes! When it freezes it then does 1 of 2 things. It either goes to a blue error screen and then reboots or, just reboots! I am pretty upset about this and need some advice on what is happening. I ordered a 128mb radeon 9800 pro, will that fix my problem? - thanks

dunno if it will fix it, as there could be many other problems, but the 9800 pro will enhanced the video performance by like 500%

Probably an issue with cooling. Would you mind telling us what your CPU temp is while playing Half-Life 2?

I don't know about the cpu temp but last time it froze the blue screen said." An exception OE has occured." what does that mean?
