I've lost my manual for COD2 and now the game wants me to input my cd key. I've searched all over the house for it with no luck. can anyone help me?

Try calling/emailing the publisher and explaining your problem. Sometimes there are ways to recover a CD key, assuming you can prove ownership.

If not, you're out of luck. It's the only legal way to do it.

Actually I found it...I was moving a broken printer and it was underneath lol

Make sure to write it down someplace.

Also, you might want to try Belarc Advisor. It picks up and prints some CD keys.
