ok i got it working lol. Im not sure exactly what i did, i turned off the firewall but that did not work, then i was screwing around with some settings, and changing th ip's slightly, and i tried it and it worked.

Thanks for all your help alehkcis, as you can tell networking is not my thing lol, im more of a hardware/software/gaming person.

i already have been, played about 4 hours with a friend...although, i can't figure out how to change my ip on my vista computer

netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" static 192.168.0.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.1 1

go to command prompt in your windows vista pc and type that command im not sure if vista still supports this command but i think does ,just change 192.168.0.10 with the ip address that you want to use and change 192.168.0.1 with your gateway , dont remove the 1 in the end....i hope this helps you

so let me get this straight, in order to get LAN working in about....any game......me and my friends or family needs to be on the same IP Address and private network?

wildiside is has to be the same ip range not same ip address
example:
game server:192.168.1.2
client1:192.168.1.3
client2:192.168.4

you can change the last digit to any digit except 0 and 255

and use this subnet 255.255.255.0
and use this gateway 192.168.1.1
i advice using 1 as the gateway so you can avoid confusion in ip addresses
