Just starting out in pc games

Thanks for all the advice guys... Just so you know trotter my specs are:
Dell Studio MT
Intel 2 Quad Processor Q8200
2.33GHz, 6GB DDR2 SDRAM, 750 GB Hard Drive
ATI RADEON 3450 (256 MB)

I am perfectly fine playing the older FPS games. I paid $899 for this set up along with a 22" monitor. I think that is a reasonably good deal.

Woah woah woah, lets slow down. He has a budget of $900 but no monitor. So the budget will be more like $700~. With $700 we can still recommend a E8500/E8600 along with a 4850/9800 GTX+. Which should be able to max out ANY GAME. Except Crysis which is not a game, but more like a high maintenance woman.
