Help lowering my ping!!

Hey guys! I need help lowering my ping! Whenever I play games It's often too laggy. I found this tutorial once- but it's only for people using under xp! So I can't use it. Are there any ways or tutorials etc. to lower my ping?? I currently run xp home edition. I really want to lower it- even if it's only about 50 points or so. Any help??

I have dial up. That's why I want to lower it. Now please don't say, "get dsl, cable etc." Since I don't get any of those out where I live. So I need a way to get my dial up ping down since that's all I have. Thanks

Don't run a lot of processes or program in the background, this slows it done immensly (sry if i spelled that wrong). Also, if it does lag try turning some of the settings in the game down like turning the graphics quality down and stuff. It may sacrifice some game play but it will also take away some of the lag.
