whats your budget??? under 100$ id look at these. Information - SteelSeries oreaty much the best gaming head set you can get. if yoru budget is higher liek aroudn 300$ get these.

hd280's will blow both of those away.
A trick is, if you have an X-Fi card just turn up the bass and treble a bit in the control panel....the drivers can take it and it makes games sound much better.
It doesnt really distort because its hardware accelerated, not software. If you only have onboard you can do it with realtek hd, but it wont sound nowhere near as good.

i dotn think the 280's will compete against the astro a40s the hd580 is sligtly better from reveiws but they said go for this due to its mix amp. if tha tis your bidget get the logitech.

The hd280pro's are legendary...they first retailed at $200.
And Sennheiser is a well known high end audio manufacturer, and has been making headphones and headsets since 1945 imo.

The 32db attenuation also makes them highly noise canceling. And they have a wider frequency range than the astros...they go down to 8hz which is very very low. Oh and there is no such thing as a true 5.1 headset, its a gimmick. You only have two drivers in a pair of headphones.
All those reviews are from gaming sites...they dont really know good sound.

they dotn know good sound but they whent for the hd580's and picked up a mix amp? dude the reveiws always said the hd580's had slightly better soudn and i dotn remember seing the reveiw i read on a gaming site. in the end the author said teh best combo is the hd580's and the mix amp but it is pricey, if you dont mind a litle loss of sound quality get the a40's, as it has teh mixamp @ 250. Astro A40 Audio System Review - 3D Graphics, Audio & HDTV by ExtremeTech the reveiwer said in the conclusion "We have often warned about the fleecing of gamers here at ExtremeTech, lamenting the vast number of products that are slightly modified from normal consumer gear, given a "gamer" visual makeover, and marked up to unreasonable prices. In this case, we can honestly say that you're not paying big bucks for just a marginal difference in quality. This is one high-priced gamer product that, for once, gives you what you pay for."
