half life 2 engine crash

ok so im playign thru the rest of half life 2 and i cant start the game no more, everytome the game starts i get an error saying an ingame engien error has occured, and the game shuts down, i only get to the loadign scren in the main menu, the same happens for halflife 2 episode one, btu episode 2 works fine, so does tf2 and portal, i tried reinstaling hl2 and episode one several times and it happens each time, im wonderign if its maybe because i am running the beta drivers for crysis and bioshock, i have been getting artifacts on episode 2 thou, and i only ever got one on portal on level 18, and i twas a purple and black checker board when the ball hits teh wall, anyway im at a loss, and wana finish this series some tome this week, what can i do to get half lifee 2 to work again, remember episode 2 works tho which i dotn get, but hl2 and episode one do not.

try rolling back drivers if you think that is the problem.....

I have the same problem. I tried playing it before i updated my video driver and i got the error, I even updated and got the same error. I've also reinstalled it 2 times, anyone have any ideas??

Steam have a repair function I think, might wanna try / go back to your stable drivers.

i tried it it doesnt do anything, i think its because i got a virus, my firends where here, while i was at worck and my friend told me to whatch this music video he doewnloaded for me today and when i clicked on it it was gay porn, so i defenitally have a virus thanks to my **** head friends.

Then just scan for spyware, and post a HiJack This log, but i think its a driver problem that in my head has nothing to do with hl2 having problems.

well i tried a few diferent drivers, and it didnt work, episode 2 works tho.

ok so ive gone thru all of steams, trouble shooting fixes and not one worked, i think i am gonna reeformat tomorow to see if this fixes it.
