Is this a good gaming pc?

Where are you buying it from? That's pretty expensive, for what you're getting. You'd get a better price if you made it yourself. Definitely don't get that graphics card. A 6600 vanilla can't handle 256mb of memory. For $1000 you should be able to build a computer with a 6800GS.

total with shipping and tax: $951.33 (that's with the Opteron processor - it'll be slightly less if you get the Athlon), so with a sound card and optical drive, etc. it'll be about $1000, but way better than the one you listed. Hope that helps!
