Games running slow

I have the sims 2 and other games, and they are running really slow.

I have used only 31gb of my 75gb hard drive, so I have enough space.

I have a nvidia GeForce FX 5200 Video card, that has become outdated, I guess, but its not old.

No spyware or anything like that.

So what could be the problem?

It would help if you listed your specs. List your current drivers as well so people can help you better.

Anyways, did the games always perform like this?

The FX5200 is not a good GPU and Sims 2 actually requires a decent GPU to run good. I'm not surprised at all if it is slow with a FX5200. What other games do you find slow?

Try defrag, scan for spyware, viruses, update drivers (although I'm not too sure if that will help you since many people complain about the newer Nvidia drivers with older cards). Turn off background apps.

How do I check that? sorry if i sound like a big n00b here -_-



The videos on my other games (Command and conquer Tiberian sun and Red alert 2) are REALLY choppy.

I ran spybot, and didnt find anything.

I am gonna go out on a limb here and say you have 256MB. I would just upgrade to 512MB or even 1GB if you can afford it.

I used cpu-z to see how much memory I have, but I don't know where it says how much I have used, it just says I have a 512mb card.
