Default Game help

Installed Dark Messiah Might and Magic, and it is having issues... The game loads and then it black screens... Sometimes it will load, play the intro video, get to the title screen and then freeze (not responding error). Sometimes it will play the intro video, and then black screen... I have done a little research and it seems as though it is an issue that has been brought up before. However, i have tried several fixes to no avail. I have reinstalled several times, and tinkered with some settings as well such as resolution, installing the patches for the game, running in compatability mode for XP and so on.... my friend has the same game on a laptop with similar specs and his works fine... please help!
