Not laying cable to people hundreds of kilometers away from a town is fair enough. Problem is, whilst i don't know if its the same for australia but they wont lay cable here anywhere that is not directly connected to a town. For instance, i live at A on this map, about 0.5km from non-stop housing going all the way through to town (which is where they want to lay cable).

Okay they won't make crazy money by putting it in to our village, but theres 10,000 people here. If they got a 5% take up they would get about £180,000 a year. I'm not sure how much it costs to lay fiber to street cabinets in a village of 10,000 people. But i would guess its pretty much around that figure, i would be surprised if they didn't make there money back in 2 years.
