Friends cant see my created server

Neverwinter nights and half life 2.... when i or him make a server neither of us can see it. is there a reason why maybe? ports possibly?

Do you have a router? If so, then you need to forward the right ports to your computer, I think 27015 for HL2. Also try "sv_lan 0" in console in HL2.

btw, self created servers are only good for 3-4 at MOST

i made my own CS server on my cable connection and my friends who have the same connection and lived few miles at most away from me (4 of 'em) had pings in the 100's
