Hello all I just recently built a new system.

AMD 3700 san diego
msi neo4 f
1gb value select corsair
200gb maxtor hd
evga 7800GT
p180 case w/ 480 psu antec neopower

What fps should I be expecting with this build in day of defeat source? I'm getting about 30-90 fps with 1600 x 1200, 4aa, 8af, all high, v-sync off. Shouldn't my fps be about 80 or above constantly?

Well when you play at 1600x1200, you can't expect to get an awesome fps. If i were you, i'd drop it down to 1280x1024, and you should surely get above 80fps, if that doesn't work, drop it down to 2xAA because there isn't much of a difference between 2x and 4x. I have DOD:S and i play it at 1024x768, all high, and 2xAA 8xAF and get generally above 60fps, usually around 80 with the specs at my sig.

I play CS:S at 1152*864 with max settings 2xAA 4xAF and i get a constant 50-80fps.

Just because he has a higher end card does not mean he is guaranteed FPS. Turn AA off, at 1600x1200 the pixels are so fine that it really doesn't help.

Any other ideas on what I can do. Which drivers would be most suitable for the 7800GT? I turned AA off and it doesn't make a huge difference...still getting 40-90 fps.

1600x1200 is not really meant to be played on today's latest games, it's a REALLY HARD resolution for ANYBODY'S video card to handle. 1600x1200 should be played on older games and i suggest you drop down to 1280x1024 and go 4xAA 2xAF

Notice that BF2's highest resolution is 1280x960 (i think). They dont bother including 1600x1200 becasuse it actually looks better with a lower resolution + AA and AF. Anyway, with the resolution that high, its tough to the read the text, its so small.

Still doesn't make sense, I should be getting 60+ constantly with a 7800GT. I used 3dmark05 and I got a score of 7580...why isn't this corresponding with my source fps? Is it maybe cause of other chipset drivers or memory? I'm so confused.

edit: I just oc'd to 491/1200...and I'm getting 7828. Ugh, should I reinstall windows? Would that make any difference?

1600x1200 IS NOT MEANT FOR TODAY'S LATEST GAMES!!! It's such a high resolution that it's so hard for ANY video card to keep up. There is nothing wrong with your card, you just need to play on a lower resolution, like 1280x1024. Then you will be gettin well over 100fps.
