cod mw2 help!!

hey guys! im having trouble running cod mw2, its just running super choppy and i cant figure out how to smooth everything out any ideas??

system:

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
2.01 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
NEC FE950+

What are the video settings set to in the options of your MW2? Might want to tone it down a bit. Also, what resolution are you playing at?

1280x1024 is the resolution im playin at
85Hz is my refresh rate
as far as my texture quality its all on low

my fps is around the mid 80's but as soon as i engage an enemy it drops to like high 20's

If you are on an LCD your refresh rate is too high. Try using 60Hz. LCDs are not like old CRTS... they do not benefit from higher refresh rates as they have their own rate already.

As for your frame rates I will leave that up to someone else. i don't have the game myself so I have no experience with it.

I see mine dip below 91 only when I'm running into a smoke grenade's cloud, that has a huge effect on me for some reason

In Modern Warfare the texture settings like that won't do much.

Look at Glow Specular Effects and all those other things on that page.

I had a Nvidia 8800 gt. what i would say is that to play that game you are going to need to buy a better video card.

i just bought an ATI Radeon 5870 and i love it.

I run it fine maxed out, but that depends solely on the resolution.
