COD 2 on Steam?

I just bought COD2 on steam. Can I play online with people who dont use steam to play COD2?

My friend couldnt register with steam and I couldnt see him in any of the servers. Maybe its because hes over 1000 miles away. Lol

Yea, I think the only thing steam allows if for you to get the install files. Game is the same exact thing as retail disc.

I was up later last night trying to remedy this crappy problem. If you (and I did) buy Call of Duty 2 from the store, your CD Key might not register with steam. This to me is BS. I have the game and to play it on steam i have to buy it again.. screw them then! I read something where Activision the maker of COD2, isn't always compatible.. they get themselves out of being liable for COD2 not working! what gives

i really don't see whats wrong with steam. Tons of people hate it, personally its a nice little program that does all the updating for me. The biggest problem it ever gave me was probably... starting up took ages? and i left filters on the server browser so nothing came up.
