cannot connect to steam

it says steam updating and it wont connect to the steam network for countrike 1.6

well there is a strong possibility that steam is updating... therefor it wont let you do anything else untill its done updating...

does it say this after you try logging in or does it not come up with the login screen?

ur firewall is prolly blocking it.

Do you have any antivirus like Norton or a firewall like ZoneAlarm running?

NO firewalls running and i turned windows firewall off and i still cant get steam to download the update.

It's most likely your router then.

Try opening these ports on it:

TCP: 27020-27050
UDP: 1200, 27000-27015

hmm beaz i don't control the router that i use. They let me use it but there not goingi to let me open ports on it.

I have 2 ip addresses and whats the external number and internal number for the service.

well if its the router firewall blocking you, and it sounds like it is, and you cant open ports on it, then your screwed...
