Hmm, I suspect IE7 has a hand in all of this somewhere.

Dont know if you've come across this: EA Socket Error help

might help, Esp. this part:

If you are still experiencing the error, it may be due to a game setting that is interfering with your connection. You can reset the game settings by deleting the Battlefield 2 folder in the My Documents folder.

1. Open your My Documents folder.
2. Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.

for me it was always mcaffee not granting bf2 permission to connect to the internet, it took me about 3 reinstalls until the pop up finally came up saying if i should grant it permission or not, i would set ur firewall to open maybe?

Yeah, I found the EA Socket Help page. Didn't help, though. I've done everything it says, but nada.

I'm using a hardware firewall, and have no problem with permissions. I use CA for antivirus, so there's no problem on that front. Besides, it worked fine before the IE7 fiasco.

I am going to wipe my drive and start over, but I'm trying to get all my settings recorded and such first. But working 10.5 hour shifts is making that hard to do.
