Some firends of mine are way into this mod for BF1942. Much like a lot of people I was initially impressed (and still am), but don't find myself playing it... A mod called Desert Combat 'DC' has version .38 out for the 1.4 patch of BF1942 and it just came out today. Get it at fileshack, (search for it and dnload the .38 ver)I'm waiting in line to get it now....argh.

Looks very cool, w/ humvees, fighters, apache hellicopters etc. I'm going to give it a whirl tonight after I spend forver waiting for the 326 meg mod install file. :(

Thought I'd spread the word here about what a lot of people are saying is a pretty cool BF1942 mod. So dust off those jewel cases, and give it a try.

I haven't even played BF1942 yet. It looks decent, but not for me. Is the mod basically like the game or is it what Counter-Strike is to Half-Life?

I think it is suppose to be like CS is to HL, but will find out for sure later.

The only cool thing I managed to do in playing BF1942 was to ram our Aircraft Carrier into the enemies Carrier...Well maybe I was the only one who thought it would be fun to do at the time ;)

Desert Combat Mod for BF1942, avail through fileshack

Alrighty, I played it a little. Mostly I just ran around not knowing what was where...I was a 'smacktard.' Been a long while since I even played BF1942, so I really stumbled around ;)

I couldn't find any free/avail tanks, humvees, or fighter jets to operate...too many people getting them before I could...because I was a smacktard newbie w/ out a clue. So I started a local LAN game and took some pics. It is actually pretty fun, but I didn't invest a lot of time. And in a war sim FPS like this, I tend to suffer attention deficit after running 5 miles in the desert, or german countryside.

The planes are WAY fun to fly, extremely maneuverable and a beauty to behold. The choppers were a bit touchy, but I'm sure 'specialists' will get the hang of all the ins-outs from hours of non-blinking gameplay. I've heard good things about the apache and blackhawk - only flew the blackhawk heli...about 10ft before I managed to flip it trying to screen capture while flying...heh.

I'll add to this post as I lean more, but first glimses are good. It does have the same sort of scenario as BF1942, but the equipment is way, way faster, increasing the tempo of the game. And the soldiers on each side have very cool skinned weapons, and tit-for-tat balances that make it intersting. Visually it is pretty impressive, to me anyway, an old Atari 2600 playin' mofo. Available scenarios: cap the flag, team deathmatch etc and something called 'Search and Destroy.

Let me know what you think if you get a chance to try it out: Hate it? Love it? or indifferent? I think it has potential, especially since I just started summer vacation and have time to invest before summer school. I think I'll always get sucked back into instant gratification games like counter-strike though.
