So I played the Demo yesterday from steam. When I first downloaded it I didn't know what to expect. I was very surprised when I played it.

The story is very intriguing from the start. Batman has captured the joker and he's being escorted to the Arkham Asylum outside of Gotham City. Batman being as cautious as he is, smells something funny in the air. Well, of course batman is right and Harley Quinn has helped the Joker Take over Arkham Asylum and it's been a set-up all along. Now you must fight your way through the Asylum to uncover and destroy the Jokers plans.

The demo starts off giving you a chance to play/see the games combat system. You will fight a few hooligans before advancing to the next section. The fighting system was a nice surprise because it's simple to perform yet the outcome is different every time. At some points you will get a slow motion view of batmans attacks at various angles. You can chain attacks as well as combo attacks. If the area gets too congested, simple use his grapple to spring yourself into the upper portion of the level. Then wait, pick your target and attack.
Attacking can sometimes require "stealth". You need to crouch and advance from behind your enemy, then use the sneak attack quietly to take out the target.

Something that I thought really makes this game cool is the "detective mode". Pressing the X key will put you into this mode. Which is basically the ability to see your environment in "blue". Then all of the enemy's will appear as skeletons. You can see your enemies ANYWHERE regardless if their positions are hidden. This mode also allows you to see exits, doors, weak walls, areas you can grapple to and from. It also gives you a much more detailed account of what you have your cursor on. (Picture - Info pops up). You can cycle back and forth from regular view to detective mode anytime you want.

The grappling is very cool. It's better to do in "detective mode" as it gives you a target to use to grapple. Once you have grappled to a higher location, you can hang upside down, drop down silently, swoop down and swoop kick attack. Makes for some very interesting choices during sneak attacks.

I also liked the Wall Crouching feature. This makes trying to stay unseen very easy. Crouch next to a wall and it gives you the ability to use extended cameras to look around walls with much better vision. I found this very helpful when sneak attacks were needed. You can also throw around corners.

Overall I was really impressed with this demo. Although it was extremely short, it does give you a flavor for what's to come. It's release date is listed as September 15th. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on this game.

Download it from Steam or here

Oh, I forgot to mention this:

I downloaded and installed the demo through steam. During installation I ran into a snag. Basically the game uses NVIDIA'S Physix software. Since I already had the software installed from another game and it was a different version than the new version, the installation was halted of the demo and i got various error messages that set-up could not be completed.

I had to go to the NVIDIA site, download and install the new version. Then in steam I was able to complete the demo install and play the game.

Just wanted to throw that out there in case others have a similar issue.

Played it on the PS3 - for the type of game i was really impressed, usually games like these are very poor.

My only complaint was that i would like to see the game be orientated to a maturer audience with some blood effects etc. And concidering the prisoners were most likely one of the weaker enemies in the game, they seemed a tad hard to kill. I would also of preferred the blade thing to be one hit kill but limited ammo, it seems pretty useless in it's current form.

Apart from that i enjoyed it.

@oreo

You know I didn't even realize there was no blood. I guess I was too wrapped up in the slow motion kills that you get to watch at random times. I see your point though. I guess for me I don't really need to see blood. And the inmates are fairly tough. Unless of course you attack, knock them down and use the finishing move on them right away.

The Boomerang or Baterang is useful for knockdowns of unsuspecting enemies. Example, if two are together and they are both armed, you can take one down with the baterang and swoop in to take out the other one, then finish off the one you took out with the baterang. I think they meant it more as a tool than a weapon.

I think blood and gore immerses me in the game more, CoD:WaW has spoilt me though, i should lower my expectations i guess. I suppose alot of Batman fans will be the younger audience too, so i understand the Devs choice on the matter. It's just not to my preferred taste.

Blood in the game would be unrealistic. Batman uses blunt objects, punches and kicks, with force, which, while they might cause you to bleed, it would not be the spatter kind of blood most games have. It would be mostly bruising and slow bleeds, which you wouldn't sit around long enough to see...

I liked the demo but felt that the game moves too slow in general. Thought it was just my PC, then looked up some videos and noticed they were all similar. Batman seems to walk slow, punch slow, ect, which is annoying.

And you HAVE to be kidding about the bad guys being hard to kill...They're like ungodly easy. It autotargets. Click the left mouse button continuously and you will beat EVERY opponent without needing to use any other key or button.

I don't mean hard in that way, they just take to much damage. I mean, would you still be standing after 8 hooks to the face from Batman.. ? i wouldn't.
