Default Sex, Lies and Video Games

This is one article that really stood out to me because as a gamer I am an advocate for a little drama to be tossed in. After all, why is OK for a movie to contain sex, rape, murder, and death but none of that seems OK to put in a video game to some?

Is it because you control the game?

Quote:
If we were to believe the media, video games are to blame for all societyís ills, including violent crime, aggression, obesity, mental health issues, and much more besides. Too often, frightening headlines about games are printed or broadcast in the mass media, but when the truth comes to light, an apology or a correction to the original story isnít given Ė or is given in a much quieter way.

Itís worth remembering that rock Ďní roll was also blamed in a similar way for much of the bad things going on in the world as it gained popularity, including teen pregnancy, violence, and even decreasing the listenerís IQ. Today we consider these claims to be all rather laughable.

This is just a small selection of the headlines and news reported about games over the last few years Ė there are many other examples out there. Some are outrageous lies, some are true, and some contain elements of truth along with a few factual inaccuracies. Donít believe everything you read about video games!

Default Re: Sex, Lies and Video Games

one thing that comes to mind is that in a movie the outcome is more or less controlled, when someone is murdered, the murderer is brought to justice, etc, therefore promoting the idea that murder is bad. in a game like GTA when you can blow up tons of people with an RPG and then run away and be fine, and control your own destiny, that promotes the idea that it's more or less ok.

also i think the control factor plays a major part. when you're reacting to a situation rather than controlling it, i think you're view is different.
